Why do people blog?  Is there really a point to it? Do people care?

People have recently become bloggers (I have fallen victim to this trend too).  We blog about life, media, news, thoughts, others, random things, and so much more.  If you think about it though, does anyone care to read these things?   Are they furthering anything?  Blogging seems to be an online diary or rant just cluttering up the Internet (again I am a victim).  None of this is really important, especially with all the recent social networking site.  For those few blogs that actually have a point, what is on them could be taken care of somewhere else.

I don't want to read your rant, no matter how entertaining it may be.  It is a waste of my time on top of the facebook time suck.  All of this blogging is not needed.  (Such as right now I should be writing a paper, but no, I'm blogging)

What is a blog?  Who came up with that word.  "Blog", rhymes with flog, clog, and log, sound like throw up, and is multiple parts of speech, Noun - Blog, Verb - to blog, Adjective - like a blog. This is a bizarre made up word.
